As soon as I can figure out what kind of wood this is it’ll

True! The search continues. Asked one of my wood guys and he guessed Elm. Little internet research and seems they grow up in a single looking core with rough thick bark.

Maybe it’ll stay a mystery. If I stop posting one day soon you guys will know what not to hang on your walls as far as wood.

@Brandon_Satterfield if you want to slow down the drying to reduce stress. I do a lot of harvesting my own wood for wood turning and have that problem in Utah’s dry air):

Wrap in brown paper or put in taped shut paper bag.
or
Dip exposed surfaces in paraffin if you have a big enough pot
or
Brush on paraffin with a brush. Wallpaper paste brush works well. But any old brush will work.

You can get canning paraffin from the grocery store.

@donkjr you are a wealth of knowledge sir. Believe the old lady (I can get away with that here) is headed to the store later today. I’ll ask her to find me some to try on one of the samples.
All you guys rock! Thank you. Got a little time left today, what should I do with it… Ahh. I know. A moment…

That’s more appropriate for me, no knots and I have MTRs, :slight_smile:https://plus.google.com/photos/111137178782983474427/albums/6559650007470248145/6559650012631093650
