Filament sensor now finished and sent off to OSH park for prototyping.

I wish I had time to install one of these. It looks like it could be a great benefit. I have to wonder, would it be capable of identifying the speed of the filament for early detection of feed issues?

@Robert_Rapplean It can detect speed by using distance over time, but the issue with these sensors is that they’re 90% accurate for distance traveled. Which is a different value than speed, but relative. So it wouldn’t work.

Ok, new thought, then. Have two of these sensors, one at the entrance to a bowden tube, one at the exit. Store the readings on entry and watch for them on exit to get distance over time.
In reality, I think that 90% would be adequate to tell me when my extruder has clogged.

Yes that is accurate enough for extruder clogging, you’d simply have the sensor check to see if filament stopped. It just isn’t good for comparing steps/mm to actual required steps/mm
