@JP_Roy yeah. I just hate the fact that companies are taking money and sending trash… It really isn’t good for the hobby.
@Camerin_hahn Just did a quick search on “Ubis hotend” as I did not know of that one and the first thing I saw is a long post describing clogs and jams with a Ubis 13
Not saying it is a bad product just that this clogging/jamming issue appears universal !!
@JP_Roy ubis is a cheap hot end, but even expensive hot ends jam. I just cleared a jam on an ultimaker at work. I have had jams in my e3d.
Clogs and jams are more related to the filament than the hot end, if you don’t have heat creep.
Hi @Camerin_hahn , I need to learn more about what exactly causes jams and clogs even on expensive hotends any reading or tutorial recommendations ?
@JP_Roy I was just reading an article about E3D hotend because I’m considering doing a conversion on mine. And when I read it I thought about you. One thing it mentions and its very true, when putting together the hot end its very important to insert the nozzle and then back it out 1/4 or more turn. Then insert the heat break into the hotend. Then tighten the nozzle up to the heat break. This ensures that the two touch completely.
Hi @Rob_Taylor1 , thanks for the hint but I actually learned about that the hard way when after my very first disassembly and reassembly of my clogged hotend, I was a bit careless with tightening and had molten plastic oozing from the top of the heating block. What a mess to clean that up !!
Hi @Nathan_Walkner , from my perspective, I think you have it reversed. The metal throat in my extruder assy. has a narrow (2mm) opening on the top and a wide 4mm opening at the bottom. I guess the small top opening prevents the PTFE tube from being drawn back up the throat when you retract the filament. The PTFE can’t slide down due to it butting on the nozzle. At least that’s the way my extruder was assembled at delivery !?
@Nathan_Walkner As I am very new at this and still struggling with my cheap hotend, I would really appreciate some clarifications on these variations and specially your choice of throat and PTFE tube orientation. Thanks !
