175 WS2812B running off of the VIN pin at half brightness
You have put way too much load on the regulator. Get a WeMos D mini - the +5v is a straight line from the USB, so heavy load isn’t going to break anything.
@Mike_Thornbury Didn’t know that about the D1 - makes small independent strips much easier to locate and power if that’s the case. Just tried it with a 60/2812b strip - but my D1 got very hot driving that strip using a USB supply the 5v driving the ws2812’s.
Any way to monitor the chip temperature onboard the D1?
I should be getting my D1 tomorrow anything i need to install for it?
Maybe a driver, but if you’ve used other ESPs, I suspect they all use the same USB chip.
@Gareth_Jones I’m running 100 WS2812Bs from the USB. Obviously I’m not getting full brightness because the mac balks and tells me I’ve overloaded the USB, but the D1 mini (not D1) worked just fine.
Here’s the schematics- as you can see, 5V goes nowhere near the ESP (3.3V only) and the USB and +5V are tied to the same bus.
Which does make me wonder how the other unit you have is wired…
