Hi everyone, I have a question about voltage supply for LED lighting.

@Zeph_Smith That makes sense. So now I’m starting to look around for 12V LED-strip solutions. Could save me the DC/DC converter issues  I’m not really worried about pixel resolution btw, I can only control 56 pixels in each tube as I want to control three tubes as one DMX universe.

@Robert_Atkins I searched for it at Magic-ledlight, my trusted supplier, and I think I found those last type of strips that you were talking about:

I probably need to fit a small DC/DC converter now for powering the teensy. Maybe the strips need some kind of a reference 5V too, as they do have 5V soldering patches. Do you think using these strips might be a better solution?

They have both a 12V and a 5V rail, so I think they might be the ones with the DC-DC converters built in. None of the photos show the converter circuitry on the back of the strip which would make it clear, annoyingly.

The Teensy doesn’t eat much power, you could almost certainly run it off the 5V rail of the strip directly.
