My first builds utilized 1/4"-20, found a post like this, looked into the theory behind it, switched to Tr8*8, 4 start, 2mm pitch. Now we use this on every build.
That said, none of us have a perfect build.
I think z banding as a result of rounding errors would only become an issue when using aggressively pitched leadscrews combined with Z axis binding sufficient to cause motor torque to go over 10% of rated load causing microstepping errors and layer height below 0.1mm.
