I generally would recommend something that is in the community, helping development of new technology, but most of those are kits, not assembled units. or out of your price range.
If I were buying for just my own purposes, I think I’d get a kit as well. But I’d like to provide some capability for the guys I work with as well and we’re more interested in just getting up and running at the moment.
the guy that just got one had his first successful print in a matter of hours from opening the box. and it was decent quality.
I decided I’d be willing to tinker a bit in the interest of not having to wait 3 months so we went ahead and ordered a Flashforge creator X. Guess we can always upgrade at a future date. Seems like the rate things are changing by the time the Ultimaker stops having a 10 week lead time something better will be available and for likely cheaper anyway.
