If you had all the mechanical pieces for a Prusa i3,

I converted my i3 box frame style into a p3steel. It’s made in laser-cut steel, it’s pretty heavy and simple to assemble. The stability, reproducibility and quality of the prints have much improved since.

You still have the extruder and the X-axis as plastic parts (i think there’s a full steel version somewhere on thingiverse).

Depending on your i3 version, you might have to get new rods (or cut those you have to the right size).

Ben, in a pinch, you can rotate your bearings or the shaft by 45 degrees to get a little more life away from the worn in grooves.
