@Adam_Steinmark Correct, you don’t want a huge print with a tiny tiny nozzle. I have a Taz 3 and a Mini from Lulzbot. I’ve also owned a Prusa i2 and a powder based printer. Lulzbot makes very solid machines, with the trade-off of higher prices. I love the PEI on the mini and am currently upgrading the TAZ 3 to use it as well. It works very well and you don’t have to use a lot of stuff to get ABS or HIPS to stick. I also love the build size of the printers as well as how committed Lulzbot is to open source.
@Justin_Nesselrotte @Jon_Gordon Just curious, what filament do you normally use? I use Hatchbox from Amazon because it prints well and is the cheapest around but they don’t sell 3mm filament anymore it seems just 1.75mm so if I were to get the Taz I don’t really know what to buy.
@Adam_Steinmark I use ABS primarily, but that’s because I’m more interested in using the printers for testing BotQueue as well as giving most of the stuff I make away. I’d rather someone be interested and get started with 3d printing than anything else. I do use it for day to day fixes though. I no longer buy the cheapest filament I can buy. It’s just not worth the pain.
@Justin_Nesselrotte I don’t know if you’ve used Hatchbox filament before but it’s not painful at all, its very reliable and I never have problems due to filament. What brand ABS do you use and where do you buy it from?
@Adam_Steinmark without sounding like a broken record, Lulzbot.
@Justin_Nesselrotte Wow Lulzbot has comparable prices. No prime shipping though :(. Might have to just deal with it
@Justin_Nesselrotte Looks like Lulzbot sells Village Plastics brand ABS and it’s also on Amazon Prime
Rods vs rails? Lulzbot = rods & M2 = rails? I thought rails were better more reliable but I built a printer with rods and it sure works well.
@Theo_McCormick it’s really just not that simple. Plus, the taz uses aluminum extrusion in it’s construction, but linear rods for motion.
@Adam_Steinmark I use Sain Smart ABS and Prototype Supply ABS, but I really haven’t tried many others.
@Jon_Gordon I heard Sain Smart is really crappy filament. Never heard of Prototype Supply. Amazon has both on Prime though so it works for me.
@Adam_Steinmark I have printed a lot of Sain Smart ABS. My experience has been very good. No problems at all.
@Theo_McCormick Thanks Theo. I’ll give it a chance then
