E.g if a status request (?) Reports back something not there in 0.9 or 1.1 then that’s a major change that must have a rationale!

Yeah i don’t know either. From the start i expected that they would the latest firmware. But apperently not.
But i fully tested it just know and i can say that the full chain works now. And if I may add, it did even a damn good job. I’m very pleased with te result.
So what ever they have done it works. But if i believe you, they guys that know this stuff, they are not fully following the official grbl guidelines.

Correct. This is non canonical if your report of the result from a ? Is correct.
Grbl also made significant changes between 0.9 and 1.1 branch. The 1.0 branch was not released as a stable branch.
