@Arthur_Wolf just means more goodies to play with then. Looking forward to it.
I love this thread! My takeaway:
cheap ramps are crap or at least a crap shoot
-Proper ramps are good especially for Cartesian and reprogramming.
-printrboard is ok, not bad price, nice auto leveling but not for deltas going fast
-smoothie is impressive but expensive for some
-Marlin is on life support, but oddly, works pretty good
Welcome to the Wild West.
I do think our rewrite of Marlin will give a little life back to 8bit boards. Our code is clean w none of the crappy stuff. It speaks json for good communication about what’s going on / which means customization is easy and sane. We have an esp chip + SF card communicating w the cloud (no small task). Our touch LCD may end up being run by teensy 3.2… This is all low cost stuff pushed to where it’s never been. I respect that type of programming… Wringing the most out of minimal hardware. It’s pretty amazing. All in, our cost will be in the range of $60-$70… Hard to beat that feature set for a Cartesian bot… Or a complete printer selling for $500-$700… Or even our plus at $1200. I like where we are going w 8bit… The ARM powered Tinyg board is the ace up our sleeve. You really can do more with more processing power, but I can’t help but want to do the most with what we have- fixing bad practices and lazy programming first before graduating to bigger iron. Dragging bad decisions onto ARM just means you do stupid stuff faster (at worst).
It will be a fun year!

@Brook_Drumm I’m looking forward to seeing your rewrite of Marlin for Printrboards! I just hope it will be usable on my old Printrbot LC Plus v1 & v2 bots, which both have genuine Printrboards from you.
Yep. It should work on all printrboards. The LCD/wifi would give new life to anyone who ripped the usb off too. Around a month or so away
@Brook_Drumm Sweet! I’m already on your mailing list, so I’ll look forward to seeing the announcement there, or here on G+. BTW, will it support the Extrudrboard?
The new printrboard may support the extruder board… No reason not to, except our long term plan for dual head printing will solely be using the Tinyg board… Which is a 5axis board
@Brook_Drumm had a look on youtube for a Tinyg board to see what you were talking about. Boy they are fast, here’s a link, pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aucE49ZBXx0
