The response they gave is that the similarities are caused by the usage of Clipper lib, but I don’t really believe that. Clipper lib is used by cura for the offsetting of polygons, not the actual path generation.
I’m also not a big fan of always online services.
@Jaime_van_Kessel @Daid_Braam I don’t know the CuraEngine well but I assume it has a well-defined API. If Katana presents the same API then that’s a fair indication of where it came from. Embedded version strings and function signatures (although obscured by C++ name mangling) would be another clue before you even get into functional similarities.
Yup. But right now they only have a cloud slicer so we can only look at the behaviour.
I personally think its a shame that instead of improving an existing (open source) product, they try to create a closed eco system. This is re-inventing the wheel instead of briging the state of the art forward.
