This is the second time I've ever had to deal with "shifting" during printing.

@Jason_Ray , I was able to slice and print the elephant without issues in Friday. This was slic3r rc3, no scaling. if I slice several objects in a row, it will crash but otherwise no problems.

You sait it fails to slice unless you scale it? I wonder if you have some memory hungry features enabled. Does it still fail using all defaults?

I just updated it to RC3 today so I’ll try again tomorrow, but I was using .90 and it would only produce errors, but didn’t crash @Matt_Harrington n. I’m starting to think something is up with the firmware as I noticed the same thing on a print today… Printing at 70-100mm instead of the 50 I set it at. Tomorrow I may just scratch everything and start over with new marlin. Also oiled the rods and threaded rods and no improvement. Hope to have some good news tomorrow.

still experienceing the same thing… printer is printing at whatever speed it wants (70-100mm) it seems but haven’t allowed it to print for long enough to watch any shifting. Trying something small now after I have downloaded the new pronterface (NOV2013) to see if that helps anything.

I have the same issue. Im running a mendel90 with e3d hotend as well.
I found it to be the y axis if the motor mount is not truely straight the belt at high speeds rides up against the pulleys walls and skips a step. mine was hard to diagnose because it seemed to happen when the bed was over the y motor.

I found mine happens the most when doing quick short infill sections which is why the print looks perfect except for the shifted layers.

I found a quick fix was to to halve my infill speed

Nice find David (for some reason I can’t tag you) Pearson, that sounds pretty legit.

I should have updated this but I haven’t experienced shifting for about a week now and didn’t do anything that would seem to have fixed it. I did play around with the z home pos in marlin but just because I took off the hotend and wanted to make sure it was calibrated correctly.

I’m still not sure about the speed issue though…
