Card slots are your friends.
I can now see why that is.
noob Q: On a 3D printer, what role does the computer play, once printing has started? On my CNC mill it actually feeds the commands through the parallel port, but with a printer I assumed it uploads everything to the RAMPS (or other) controller? Is the actual G-Code file still on the computer for big prints, and that’s why an SD card solves the problem?
Is that model on thingiverse? It looks really nice
@Chet_Wyatt Correct. You can upload your G-code to the SD card, start the print from the card, then disconnect if you like.
@Chet_Wyatt As i found out, when the pc stops so does the printer. The code is not loaded onto the RAMPS or Printrboard in this case. So as @Patrick_Ryan has said if the code was loaded onto an SD card then it wouldn’t matter about the pc. Unfortunately i don have one of the setups so i have to print the old fashioned way. ha
@John_Ridley That’s kinda what I thought. I run LinuxCNC on my mill, so I really haven’t gotten into the printer mindset yet. Although, after I posted the comment I realized that Marlin (or whatever) is the upload, as far a RAMPS system goes anyway
BTW, @Wayne_Friedt that print looks awesome, even though it crapped out.
use that piece as a pen holder with all of the honeycomb chambers
@zephyrin_JG I agree, it looks like it has a purpose… art at the very least. I know it’s basic but I’ve seen so many bad prints, that a good one, even a partial good one, is cool.
@Chet_Wyatt Thanks. I should show my first prints. Looked like they were made by a 4 year old.
@zephyrin_JG Good idea.
@John_Ridley You have a way of explaining that is awesome, beats my " cowboy " writing any day. Thanks for the input.
Ice cube tray
Hadn’t thought of that.
