1st attempt at a critical piece pulled the tape off the glass. In desperation, I’m trying gorilla glue. Spread a modest layer with a blade and quick dried with a heat gun. Started print while (unheated) bed was still warm. No shrinking/curling so far.
Question is: What are the chances I’ll get this off tomorrow morning when it’s finished???
pla. unheated custom bed (broken mirror) on a modified @Printrbot Simple.
I use blue painter tape on my @Printrbot Simple (modifier Maker editon) and rub some isopropyl alcohol prior to each print and I get very good adhesion.
I’m having no problems with the print sticking to the tape - it’s keeping the tape on the glass that I’m struggling with.
@Alex_Wiebe I see your using green tape. Had very low sucess with it. Indeed does not stick well to the plate.
3M blue tape has a much better glue. Yeah it 9$ (canada) a roll but worth it.
Let us know how it goes. I think gorilla glue is way to much for this “removable” application. I use a glue stick and sometimes have problems getting large prints off the bed. Buildtak may work well for you. I don’t have auto bed leveling and my hot end made contact, melting it a little.
I also use a brim on large flat prints that want to curl. Helps a lot. I use a Printrbot Metal w/o heated bed.
I am using paper to print on… works really well with PLA. I spray a temporary adhesive (Elmers), let it dry, then right before I put it on the glass, I spray it again. If you let it cool, it peels right off the glass, and the parts stick to it rather well.
@Keith_Applegarth paper ? Will have to try that !
Yes, plain old printer paper…
Try cleaning the glass throughly (91% IPA or acetone), then a layer of Elmers washable gluestick.
@Alex_Wiebe , did it come off?
I have tried Painter tape, the problem is getting the print off at the end. Always have to replace the tape, even if the print is printed with a cold bed.
Purple stick on heated etched glass always works for me.
The only problem with glue is the mess. That’s why I prefer printing on paper. Cleanup is so much easier.
I had great luck with glass & aqua net hairspray. As soon as the glass cools down the piece pops right off.
I was thinking about trying aqua net. Any tips?
