Thats extremely cool, a tad expensive tough otherwise I would have had atleast 1 x-mas present ready

Too bad they don’t make models available to those of us with access to a 3d printer. This kind of thing irks me to no end, especially when someone posts an object to thingiverse with a junk file(a violation of their guidelines) to download, but a link to shapeways. Paying for printing defeats the point of building a printer in the first place.

they do @Chapman_Baetzel , after you select the region and go to the next step there’s a link to download the file!
Really making me wish I had a printer!

Really cool idea. My area is so flat I could just print a block and be done with it.

Thanks for clarifying @Erik_BBQ_King_Nasstr . I posted it because they say you can print it yourself, though I haven’t tried yet.

You can make your own terrain models of anywhere in the world by using Quokka 1.1 from http://splod67.com. See Shape | Add Terrain. It made this collection http://www.thingiverse.com/toddsplod67/collections/maps

@Todd_Splod , where do you find the terrain files ?

There are terrain descriptor files in quokka/project/terrain or make your own by entering coordiinates (it really needs a map browser). The terrain data is SRTM data downloaded on demand.
