3D printed beak for a bald eagle
The use cases for this technology are endless.
That is too awesome.
Oh my gosh this is so awesome!!
Cyber eagles yay! I hope there is a tiny laser gun under that beak.
Hey, I like 3D printers. I have one and support the technology… But lets just agree that someone could very easily have made the prosthetic without a 3D printer just by modeling plastic. Let not go nuts with the “oh how awesome is the stuff we can now do with 3D printing… that we have been doing fine without for years…”
I’m sorry you hate bald eagles @John_Latimore
LOL, wut? @Sean_Grace
Just joking @John_Latimore In all seriousness, I think what you said is exactly the point. Of course, someone could have made the beak without a 3D printer. But, not anyone. And, anyone being able to print a beak to save a bird, a part they need for their car, a pair of shoes in the color and style they want, and on and on is where we are getting with 3D printing. I can buy most items in a store. But, 3D printing allows for speed/convenience, customization, and lower cost which will soon create a shift in the way we produce and consume products.
3d printed freedom
I’m not sure what it’s made out of @Glenn_Lopez You’re right though. But, I would imagine this eagle is now at a zoo or some kind of sanctuary.
You can 3D print in Metal too like Titanium.
Yes, but you dont want it to be unnaturally heavy. You want it to be tough amd durable. But lightweight and agile.
check the story on the video http://vimeo.com/15184546 apparently they used titanium and nylon as the beak grows they substitute it.
This bald eagle looks so badass with that new beak tho! X]
