Blue tape on PEI?

@Tomas_Vit depends on the material. I use blue tape for Spoolworks Edge & PET/G because otherwise it sticks too well to the PEI and is almost impossible to remove.

@Jon_Gritton Under PET(G) or CPE I use windows cleaner (glue for big parts) and under flex materials it’s faster/cheaper (than blue tape) to use separation layer of glue. (It’s no problem to clean it from PEI with common alcohol.)

More about recommended material/PEI combination at http://www.prusa3d.com/material-guides/

PS: And yes, year ago (when MK2 is still fresh) I ruptured PEI on one of my MK2s because of frequent tests of more exotic materials where I forget to use separation layer. So I have two PEI sheet removal processes already done. Lemonesol is a olfactory bomb.

Use the lacquer on a glass bed, this is the solution ( and of course, increase printing speed)…

@Cosimo_Orlando PEI ≠ glass. (Very different experience.)

PEI is similar to PETG, so the same solutions work for me. When I say glass I’m referring to the bed!

(Not all lacquers are the same)

@Tomas_Vit I’ve used Elmers Glue as well in the past. To be honest, it’s mostly about simply remembering that these materials can’t print directly onto the PEI. What they should print onto is then another memory issue and blue tape seems to be a reliable solution for most materials.

Yeah, Limonene isn’t something you want to spill in any quantity inside the house. Although I guess at least it’s a reasonably pleasant smell!

I never used blue tape or heated bed, only lacquer, and my prints are wonderful (to be honest). I can send you some sample pictures.

@Jon_Gritton I can’t eat citrus fruits several days after using Lemonesol.

@Tomas_Vit yeah… my PEI sheet under it has heavy gashes in it because of a glitch my printer had recently where it seemed to be taking way too many steps on the Y axis so it never found the calibration points and instead decided to dig into my PEI while bending the bed in the process. Painful thing to come back to and find lol. So i sanded it down and taped it up temporarily

What’s this about lacquer? I’ve never heard of anyone using it before.

As for PETs on PEI, it is possible to use this combination without damaging the surface and excessive adhesion, try using a lower bed temp.

@Jeff_DeMaagd , I think he means hairspray by “lacquer”… Doesn’t look like a good idea enameling a bed
