A better quiet spindle for ShapeOko and the like?

I’ve been interested in these quiet cut options ever since I first powered on my dw660.

Main concern for me is power though. I quite like being able to tear through 2mm of plywood at 1000mm/min.

Can anyone confirm similar results with one of these types of spindles?

@Ben_Delarre That is my concern as well. I have all of my feed/speed parameters set and working nicely with the DW660. I don’t want to have to sacrifice the speeds I’m getting for the noise just yet. Standing by for more info.

Yeah, I built a very large and heavy box from chipboard, green glue and sound proofing foam. It manages to cut the noise down to reasonable levels, but I hate enclosing it in a box I can’t see inside, just from a safety point of view. The box is also ridiculously heavy and over built and I’m moving how now and realizing just how ridiculous it is

I reckon DW660 is around 700W so though louder it is more powerful that this one. Max speed on DW660 can reach 30.000 rpm but this other unit tops at 12.000 rpm

Something to think about: Brushless motors and their specialized controllers are really expensive. With that said, this set for only $110 raises lots of flags wondering what corners were cut to get the price this low.
A trim router is not as accurate as a dedicated spindle but more powerful. I ordered a SuperPID to control the speed of my DW660 and @Caleb_Peters has a video of his at work https://youtu.be/CmZL8IfQeDo

Yeah I use a SuperPID on mine as well, certainly helps with acrylic, and does reduce the noise considerably at lower speeds!
