A bit of progress on a side project. 36 x 24 CNC router. The z-axis is temporary until I get something built. Bed is 1/2 in. Ply torsion box with 20mm supported rail on sides. Gantry is going to be a box structure but only face of it is ready. Debating 1/2-10 acme screws or direct drive with #25 chain. I have the screws to fit already but would prefer direct drive. Might need to upgrade the wimpy 1n/m NEMA 23 steppers for direct drive. I am just going to stick a laminate trimmer on it for now. I figure the other projects would do better if I both got this mess off the work table and got started using it to make other parts.
@David_Kirtley nice design! I’m in the process of doing my own at of wood with very similar materials! I would personally go with direct drive just because of ease. Good luck can’t wait to see it finished!
