A friend and I are building an iTopie. We would like to have glass beds(no warping) with silicon heater mats.
We were wondering what would be the optimal way to set this up. Perhaps we could layer glass on aluminium on a heated bed like the mendelmax. We want glass because it does not warp and I am doing dual extrusion so we need a flat surface.
Thanks!
I wouldn’t recommend a silicon heater on top of glass. If you’re willing to spend the money I would opt for Mic6 aluminum and a PEI sheet on top. It would provide better heat transfer and completely level.
Seconding @Griffin_Paquette 's suggestion. You want a really flat surface, and if you have a heated bed, PEI is the new hotness, apparently.
Even when I didn’t do something like a MIC6 bed, my sandwich was fiberglass insulation, 110v 1100w Silicone heater, Aluminum Plate, Glass. If you get the MIC6, skip the glass and use PEI - the setup is much nicer to use for materials other than PLA.
@Griffin_Paquette@ThantiK Thanks. Would you recommend a supplier of mic6 aluminium? We can mill it yourself, but if any comes ready made we would be happy with that.
If you can machine it yourself you might want to check if any local metal shops have cutoffs of it. They generally sell that really cheap. @ThantiK would probably be better for giving a distributor suggestion. I just look for surplus usually
