A friend and I are working on a couple prusa i3’s and we are looking to design and machine our own x carriages. We are trying to make both a very customizable carriage, and a light stiff one. Would anyone have any recommendations?

We would be willing to mill a few extras for those who wanted them!

What advantages will your design and construction offer over the stock carriage? You reference milling, does that mean it will be made of aluminum?

@Fred_U Yes, I should have mentioned that. We are thinking of aluminium. We want a lighter stiffer frame that is customizable.

I’ve recommended to the local library makerspace that they purchase a genuine prusa i3 mk2 based on the internet reputation, including the posts to this forum and elsewhere. I intend to follow all developments possible and would perhaps be purchasing appropriate upgrades to benefit the library as a donation. I’m looking forward to seeing how your project develops.
