This history book is amazing: http://garyhodgson.com/reprap/2012/02/a-history-of-reprap-development/
It’s of the RepRap projects history, specifically, but documents a lot of the different things we’ve tried over the years.

Added a few more links.
Also looking for a research article from the past few weeks, it was in Chinese and was comparing different filament properties. I didn’t favorite the article because the translation was awful but the student researcher reads Chinese.
