A massive upgrade to one of my older projects, this is the LED Sphere V2. A self contained light toy
The outside is 2 x Ikea outdoor light fixtures. Inside are 800 x APA102 Pixels painstakingly attached to the inside of the plastic(took me 3 hours per half). Its driven by an ESP8266 (not using FastLED) and is powered by a 10A 5V Power Bank. Unfortunately I can not post the code that makes all those awesome patterns, but I am in the process of making a simple APA102 driver for the ESP8266 which I will post on git in the next few days, if anyone is interested.
Really cool.
This is AMAZING!!!
I want to make one of these! Do you have Instructable for this or code available?
@Scottie_D369 Shoot me an email leon@elec-tron.org I can send you some basic instructions on where to start. I can not share the code with you, but i can show you how the hardware wired up and what parts you need
Nice polar scrolling / smearing! Looking good.
this is amazing !!! magically hypnotic effect !
Very inspiring, thanks for sharing! I’ve been planning on upgrading my wireless sphere, and I think this just gave me the push I needed.
Wow, that’s fantastic! I’d love to see an Eye of Sauron flamey animation on that thing.
If anyone is interested I have posted a very simplistic driver for the ESP8266 https://github.com/leonyuhanov/esp8266apa102driver
how to make it
@Tan_Linda Shoot me an email and I’ll help you get started
definitely interested in seeing the git repo. Excellent work.
@Roger_Guess Have a look at https://github.com/leonyuhanov/esp8266apa102driver it is very basic code to get an ESP8266 to drive an APA102 Strip
Hi @Leon_Yuhanov , I am struggling with the design of a sphere similar to yours and I am curious about how you went about this build.
Here’s my email… jpro56@hotmail.com
I would definitely appreciate any info you have about the build itself !
Thanks, JP
@JP_Roy will email you some pics shortly
