A measuring cube for the kitchen drawer! My wife’s excited! Really handy because it keeps all the measuring sections together. One major downside is that I made it out of PLA, so it’s not dishwasher safe; but it’s still a really cool concept (so long as you hand wash it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2676324

Very Cleaver.

bit unpractical though cuse it needs washing every time you want a measure ment from the other side.

@michel_prins I guess it all depends on how you use it. I like the convenience of not getting the cups separated from each other. I’ve often found a 1/4 cup when I’m looking for a 1/3. This way, if you find the cube, you’ve found all your cups.

@LA_Durant an interesting article on the subject: https://reprage.com/post/36869678168/is-3d-printed-pla-food-safe

You could use that as a reference to cast it out of aluminum or brass

The biggest problem with food safety has got to be the crevices that allow material to build up. Since it can’t be sterilized by high temperatures, there’s effectively no way to keep it from becoming a bacterial source. When it comes to food, I’d use PLA for one-off uses (e.g. cookie cutters), or completely dry material (e.g. pasta sizers) but not much else.

For measuring grains and powders or things like cookie cutters natural PLA is generally considered OK to use. The contact time with the food is very short and there is no direct contact with your mouth. Additives in the PLA (not considered natural) are another question as well as other contaminates possibly in the extruder. If there is a concern then you can coat the print with polyurethane or a food grade epoxy.

Here is a link to a blog about it. https://pinshape.com/blog/3d-printing-food-safe/

I need this

^^ nobody’s gonna use the measuring cube to store liquids for days, or as a vessel for heating food in a microwave oven…

In my opinion Mr Jackman should run to the nearest patents office, it’s a pretty nice idea/design.

@Patrick_Ryan I agree about the gaps between each layer. But you can sterilise at lower temperatures… Use a Baby Bottle Sterilising fluid.

IMHO PETG is a better choice of filament. Although it gets soft in boiling water it doesn’t collapse completely

There are a bunch of “dishwasher safe” PLAs, so I’d probably use one and then toss it in the dishwasher.

Damn dude! This is Wile. E Coyote, genius!

@Rosaura_Valle I appreciate your comment, but I didn’t design this. It actually has a ‘pat pend’ mark on the side of it, so the designer IS pursuing selling this eventually.

Guaranteed the first time I needed to use it I’d have to measure 1 TBSP of oil, and then turn it over and drip while measuring 1/2 cup of something.

interesting design but very nice minimal and useful
