A ‘Moravian Star’ hacked up with 240 LEDs and driven by FastLed and a Photon Particle. Still writing an app to control the colors and pattern sequences from a smartphone but it is already controllable through the Photon cloud API.
VERY cool! Nice work mate, did you make the star or is it pre-made?
The star was purchased about 10 years ago, up until this year held a 40w incandescent bulb. Believe it was purchased here : http://shop.moravianbookshop.com/ . Comes apart at the center with metal screws. Not at all easy to get LED strips down those spokes!
@David_Shay Thanks mate, I would love to make one of these
I just bought one of these… and am doing something similar. I did not think about the strips down the star. Is it just a single strip in there? I was just going to put a pixel at the base of each spike but I like the effect that you get with the strip in there. I got mine off of amazon.com but you can find them with a simple google search other places.
Yes a single strip in each spoke. Every thing is 60 pixels/meter, there are 12 pixels in each long spoke, 3 in each small spoke. The wires get to be a mess since everything is really just two long strips back to the Photon, so in most spokes there are 3 wires coming back to feed the next spoke. LOTS of soldering…
I ended up just doing single pixels… Seemed like more work than I wanted to do with the strips… Great result though David!
