A question about heated print beds.
We’re going to printed on a heated print bed, do I need tape? If so what kind?
We’ll be using PLA and ABS at least to start. And then we’ll be moving on to more exotic stuff. Should I be looking at decorator’s tape or use kapton tape?
For PLA … Blue painters tape
For ABS Hairspray or ABS slurry [acetone with scrap ABS mixed in]

Water soluble glue stick on mirror glass for both.
Edit: Temperature 70C for both.

Quite a learning curve. Thank goodness for this community. Looking forward to helping others in here once we have learned more.
Plus one for Hairspray on hot glass for ABS. Blue tape on warm glass for pla.
PLA-wise, blue tape on warm glass indeed. I have tried going without warming the plate but found that chances of first layer sticking to bed is 50/50…
For PLA I find that sanded glass at 60°c works great. No need for blue tape.

Are these water soluble glue sticks the same as Pritt Stick in the UK?

@Rex_Bigger possibly. I didn’t try the Pritt Stick as i had good results with the first I tried, the UHU Stic.

I keep my bed at 70C for both ABS and PLA.
The adhesion of the clue is marginally better when freshly applied/still sticky but then some of it comes off with the object.
I usually print on dry glue instead. After about three coats I find I don’t have to reapply in a long time.

I’ve been having success with just super-mega-crazy-awesome hold #5 hair spray for both ABS and PLA, and cleaning is as easy as just running hot water over the glass and cleaning with a paper towel.

Have tried a thick layer of Pritt Stick on a 70 degree bed and the print stuck (PLA). Cleaning was easy too so I’ll be sticking to that.
