Actually really impressed by this Snack Holder that the Cube printed for #ThingiThursday . Printed in about 4hrs in ABS. The Up! failed about ten mins into the same print. We need to recalibrate the platform.

What materials do each of these use as bed surfaces? The UP! looks like it uses a perforated garolite…

@ThantiK The UP! (or Afinia as it is rebadged in the US) uses a perfboard, though I doubt it is Garolite. You get three with it, it needs wiping down and cleaning with acetone after a few prints. Can be tricky to remove the rafts. The Cube prints directly onto the metal, heated build plate. You apply “Magic Glue” or Glue as it is better known as before each print. I believe that in the newer generations of the Cube you print onto glass?

The UP/Afinia board you are talking about is regular FR4 copperless perfboard. Only works with a raft.

Dang… please calibrate the Up and retry. Would love to see the actual comparison. Btw on my Up I use blue tape for Pla. Kapton or clone for Abs. Works well. Never have to print rafts.

I’ll never trust the cube. More broadly, I’ll never trust any printer that relies on an activation code and wifi connection to work. It’s a bit creepy and big brother ish.

How much noise does the cube make ? Can you sit in the same room and " not notice it " ?

No @Jonathan_Peeters the Cube, first generation is a bit of a noisy beggar. Quite high pitched and intensely annoying. The UP! on the other hand has printed several items on my desk without bothering the rest of the office.
