After a lengthy grant writing process our school finally got a makerbot. This first print was o so sweet!
A 3d printer for school seems like some thing the people at school should have built to learn from the experience.
@Mike_Ashcraft our plan is to print the parts and build our own soon. I agree completely!
@Mike_Ashcraft Been there, done it, twice, not in a hurry to go there again. First time in 2009 with a Cupcake and again in 2011 with a RepRap. We made it work but it is so much more productive to point the student to the 3d printer and have them print something on it 30 minutes later.
That may be the most expensive repstrap I have ever seen but thats good your going to be building some.
How is using a printer more productive than building one, in an educational environment?
@Jason_Gullickson at least in the arts I have seen the tendency to obsess about making the tool but not giving any attention to what is actually done with it. Hammers are pretty cool and all but in the end I want to see the creativity that manifests when you make an amazing thing with it.
Also as far as printers go, the makerbot is great for ease of use. Many people will be using this printer from grades 7-12, so a reliable model was worth the investment
Ah @Brian_Evans I agree if the curriculum is unrelated to engineering I can see why you’d want the printer to “just work”
every 2 year old on the planet needs a tablet with 200 educational apps for their birthday present.
