After watching @Thomas_Sanladerer ’s video about building a dirt cheap Prusa I3, I thought, why not?
So I’ve built one. MDF frame, cheap rods, dirt cheap ramps-fd 32 bit board, chinese arduino due, chinese TMC2100 stepper drivers for X and Y, chinese 4988’s for Z and E0.
Nice mic6 build plate with PEI coating, 230V silicone heater, Igus bearings.
Clone E3D hotend.
The TMC2100 drivers are very nice and quiet.
Made the hotend cooling fan temperature controlled, so I don’t hear it while printing.
After calibrating printed a…(drumroll)…Benchy!
Turned out very well.
There is only one thing I don’t like about this design, and that is that it’s almost impossible to see how the first layer is printing, as there is so much plastic parts getting in the way.
I love my dolly printer. She just gets on with it. The tmc drivers must be nice.
Very cool been thinking of doing the Dolly also. Thanks for sharing.
What was the overall cost?
@Matthew_Del_Rosso I really don’t know, but I would guess around $400,–
I could have bought a printer kit for that, but this was way more satisfying.
super cool ^^
