I agree. I buy a spool of plastic and think about the harms. I believe PLA is biodegradable as it is a corn based plastic but abs is nasty stuff.
I have a bucket of old + failed prints (PLA) waiting for disposal or to be ground up and re=filamented (when I can afford one).
I do the vast majority of my prints in PLA. I find it easier to print, and I like that it is biodegradable.
@djC653 : Remember that you don’t want more than about 30% of recycled plastic in your filament.

@Mark_Rehorst , I have to disagree about home extruders making quality filament. The Filastruder can hold tolerances as tight as +/-0.02mm. Here’s two prints done with Filastruder filament:
