Almost off topic - but not quite.
I want to make a different funnel for my Filastruder - but my printer hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t print it. I have a design in Tinkercad - so I have an STL file. I want to flatten the mesh with thickness into just the surface and then unfold the model into a design to cut it out of card stock. I’ve seen three possible solutions, but I’m not comfortable just downloading any old demo from a free download site.
Anybody have a safe suggestion?
I’ve been trying Pepakura - so far - I’m not getting good results - but some of that stems from the free versions limitations and some from Tinkercads limitations. But once I get home and can open the stl in Bonzai3D I may be able to edit down to an acceptable mesh that Pepakura can handle. It sees each object as separate pieces with thickness and that’s not what I want. However - Thank you Anthony for the suggestion.
I have TurboCAD Mechanical 16 which, in theory, can do unbends. I am willing to see if it can work on STLs.
Oh, that would be cool. I have a tinkercad account, Rojer. I think you can see it by going to: http://www.tinkercad.com/things
But I will need to make the file public. Since my year old iMac seems to have bit the dust yesterday, it will probably be Friday or Saturday before I can change its permissions. Once public, you will be able to download the STL. Thanks! How I get it back from you - we can figure out if your method works. Good thing it’s a long weekend. I’ll probably have to pull out an old Mac Mini. Or perhaps by a dang PC. Grrr.
