Am I supposed to be getting spirals when I cut?

Am I supposed to be getting spirals when I cut?

oh… that almost looks like the bit is spinning the wrong way, is very very dull, or has broken off completely!

In solid wood like that, you /should/ be getting a cleaner cut than that.

What’s the feed rate? This bit is dull or spinning the wrong way…

Feed rate is 150 mm/min (I think), and the bit is a 1/4 inch, 4 flute up cut. The bit might be a little burnt… I’m still trying to work through feeds and speeds.

I think it’s up cut… uxcell Cutting Slotting End Mill Router Bit 4 Flute 1/4" Shank 1/4" Diameter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BGCC9JQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bSIlyb5EZBR3J

Uhhhhh… Yes it’s burnt. A 4 flute at 16k rpm needs at least 120ipm or
about 3000mm/min in wood

This is much more complicated than the commercial! I guess I’ll have to increase my speed, get a cutter with less flutes, and spin as slow as possible. I assume I adjust the depth of cut to match what the machine can do without stalling?

You’re bits shouldn’t be making dust… If it is, you are feeding too slow

Yep, still too slow. It’s called CHIPload for a reason!
