And finally printed the space wrench. Had to replace the idler in my extruder, then upgraded the hotend from a MakerGear to a J-head, added the heated bed, and then changed filament because I ran out of natural PLA.
Drumrollll… Does it work?
It ratchets. Haven’t tried a socket yet, snapped the drive off of the previous attempts trying to free their mechanisms, so I’m a little gunshy.
It’s a tough print but we need tough prints to force us to dial in our machines. Well done!
works with a regular socket… but I did a printed one for demos http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:655945
Now if you could just attempt your 3D print in zero-gravity
We gave up after about our 4th or 5th try on a Makerbot 5th Gen. The ratcheting mechanism fuses during the build. We tried fiddling with the JSON file to reduce the extrusion width but even that didn’t work.
