And this is a plot of the data when it’s spinning freely (or attached to a POVpoi stick, no wires to restrict its movements.) First half is spinning clockwise while the other is counter-clockwise. Unfortunately, they’re both the same. The one instant on the second half where you see more red is because the whole thing was rotating along its length (in other words, the spindle its attached to is doing its job and allowing it to rotate in mid-air.) I think I’m going to start trying different sensor angles and figure out which one will get me what I need. When you guys get tired of seeing these, let me know and I’ll do some POV captures when it gets dark.

Have you found or are you planning on using a Kalman type filter? I started a while back with trying to get respectable data out of an accelerometer, everywhere I read it pointed to using a Kalman.

I haven’t implemented one yet. Right now I’m just reading raw data. But yes, ultimately you want to use a filter to smooth it out. I may rip the code out of the quad software and use that, as it’s written for all three sensors. Why reinvent the wheel, right?

SWEEET!!! YES! what did you you use to translate the data stream to nice graphs like that?

Processing. The Arduino is spitting the data out to serial and Processing picks that up and plots it.

Unfortunately, due to a faulty 3.3V regulator, the sensor is fried (stupid regulator was outputting 4.03V and the sensor handles max of 3.6V.) I should have another in-hand tomorrow so I can keep working on this. The advantages of having Sparkfun 8 minutes from my house.

I used to live in Colorado years ago… now Sparkfun, that’s another great perk. Colorado is great country with good people.

Yeah, I go out there every few Fridays or so. Sit down with some of the fine folks over there and just chat. They’re a fun bunch.
