Andrew Robinson, one of the @FreeCAD devs has commented about the status of the FreeCAD CAM module: “we are getting close to being done with the core workbench stuff; my current guess is a few weeks.”
This is really great news for CNC users. if you are not already using FreeCAD, now is a great time to learn!
Yes it is.
(next time, please use “+” , )
I’ll have a look at the unfinished source asap.
Next 2 weeks I’m on vacation, maybe there will actually be something to try when I return
“There is an ongoing movement to develop a good CAM module, though. Check the “CAM” section of this forum. EDIT Oh sorry, we ARE in the CAM section Well check the other topics”
@Marcus_Wolschon I tried the + last time but you didn’t appear in the list. I’m very excited about @FreeCAD the new assembly workbench is starting to look awesome and soon we will be able to use the cam features!
Just to clarify; Andrew is talking about the core workbench. this is a major milestone but won’t, by itself, be very useful yet. The next piece of work will be to develop the Tool Path Generators (TPGs). Without TPGs for drilling, profiling, pocketing, etc, end users won’t be able to do any real work.
@Jean_Lotz We have a G+ FreeCAD community that is much more active. The G+ profile is run by the developers and if it’s used at all, it’s just for official announcements. If you really want to know what’s going on, you need to read the forum (http://forum.freecadweb.org/) and/or follow on IRC (#freecad).
