Andrew Tuline I'm a big fan of your sound reactive work.

@Andrew_Tuline I’m a big fan of your sound reactive work.

I’ve struggled to find cheaper microphones that I can easily order and have delivered to Australia that work with your code. I’ve found a few $1-$3 mics that I cannot get to work reliably.

Finally I think I’ve found a reliable cheap alternative to the Sparkfun MEMS unit you have suggested.

These cheapies have worked fine for me so far, as long as I connect them as you’ve described to 3.3v and AREF.

If anyone else is searching for a cheap alternative please give one a go and let us know if it works well for you.

They may not be as good, I don’t know. But I know I can order 10 for the price of 1 sparkfun MEMS and they arrive on my doorstep in under half the time. They are simple to wire up and get working.

So excited to be able to build some party lights with these. Thanks for your awesome code @Andrew_Tuline

Thanks for the update Danny. I’ll have to order a few myself and see how they work out. As you mentioned, those Sparkfun units are pretty pricey.

They are both pricey to buy and to have delivered.
I’d be really interested to hear what you think of the cheapies.

I’ve ordered 3 of them. Thanks to Canada Post, I should be seeing them sometime next March.

Wow, Australia Post is pretty slow and I’ve had stuff from China arrive within a couple of weeks, almost always within a month as long as you don’t order in Chinese New Year period.

Does Canada hold stuff up forever in customs or something?

They hold it up for ages and are looking for Fentanyl. I swear they’ve hired 3 pensioner aged sorters to do this work for the city of Vancouver.

following this thread as I’m also curious. My main issue hasn’t necessarily been finding ones that will work. Plenty work when you stick them within a foot or so of the speaker. The problem has been finding ones that work in a larger room, without having to deafen my neighbors
