Another example of how using different measurement systems can stuff you over…

Read some advice saying to “put taulman nylon in the oven for half hour at 50 deg” to dry out any moisture before use…

Another person was saying they’d do it at 100 deg for an hour and, as it turns out, my oven cannot be set below 100… So i took this advice… into the oven it goes at 100 degrees…

Celcius…

EVERY person who talks about 3d printers uses celcius… Except the person who posted this tip… >_<

Turns out 100 Fahrenheit is around 39 degrees c… All makes more sense now - doesn’t unwarp my spool tho does it!? Lol - at least the filament is ok and I noticed the problem early… Could’ve been a bigger problem!

but now is dry as a desert!

i use a big paint can with a 100w light bulb inside, with the lid i can reach 45c inside, i leave the filament there for 12 hours. Same with PLA

Thanks for the tip!

Nah it was only in the oven for 10 minutes! The spool itself obviously has a low melting point, I aborted the process early…

The paint tin idea sounds good - this whole thing has got me wondering about a heated bowden tube or something similar, I don’t think it would work the way I’m imagining it now but perhaps its something that could be worked on

after drilling some holes to the can, it works better.

Yesterday i went to work and left a pla spool and a nylon spool drying, i tossed a dissecant bag inside, one that turns blue when gets humid. After 12 hours, it was a blue brick, so, the thing really works. You can even see some color difference on the nylon.

I just cut off as much as I need (After slicing it so I know how much) and put it in the oven for an hour at 120 degrees C.

Makes you wonder why 'murica doesn’t adopt metric like the rest of the world.
