Any advice for getting large PLA parts off of Kapton?

Any advice for getting large PLA parts off of Kapton? I’m now I’m sitting in A&E (British for ER) regretting trying to force my somewhat blunt Swiss knife under it, Oops. :-/

A butter knife works well if you can get it under the print.then.lightly tap it to loosen up the print, its what I do for big stubborn prints. Just be careful not to break your glass.

Not sure if this works on all plastics, but I’ve seen people spray the bottom edge of prints with those co2 dusting-can-compressed-air things to make the plastic contract enough to pop off the bed.

@Cameron_O_Neill ya I have tried that, just be careful you can crack your print and or your glass.

I just use abs on glass with hairspray. Works like a charm, though not everyone has a printer with a heated platform.

I’ve always let the bed cool and when cool after an hour or so it’s removed itself.
I can pick it up loose after that.

I use a knife, but rather than trying to force it under the edge of the part, I usually try to press the blade into the side of the object so that it grips the layers and then twist it to lift the part. I’ve also recently been trying to remove parts by tapping the side (like with a screwdriver handle) to pop it off.

@Whosa_whatsis that’s exactly my knife technique. And what I was trying last night when I sliced my finger open.

Try a putty knife and keep your fingers away from the blade, I hold the bed with one hand and push a lightly sharpened putty knife away from my other hand. I’m paranoid as I’ve almost lost a finger tip in a kitchen accident

@Eric_Moy awsome hulk hands. “Hulk agree to.second date with peony humen!” … “ah… hulk sad.”

Sorry nerd moment.

I also recommend hairspray. Especially for PLA- skip the costly kapton tape and coat your glass with cheap hair spray. I quit lamenting the money I ‘wasted’ on a ‘crappy’ printer and began enjoying 3D printing when I switched to hait spray.

I print on aluminum with full sheet thick kapton. I remove all my prints with a 5” putty knife once the platform is cool. I don’t like the idea of printing on glass

Hair spray works on Acrylic? I have an Ultimaker with the original Acrylic bed. I use painter tape and then pry prints loose with a plastic painter spatula.
