Any advice on where to purchase PLA? Who do you like? Which colors work better? Is there any vendor who will sell you a sample pack with a little bit of each color rather than having to buy 1kg of a color sight unseen?

We have ABS and PLA by the reel, and speciality filament by the meter.
ABS/PLA will go up tomorrow by the reel i hope. The specialist stuff is a bit more complex and might need another few days. We’ll probably be doing ABS/PLA by the meter too in colours soon. At competitive prices I hope.
UltiMachine is great, Printbl is good too (sells Diamond Age PLA).
ToyBuilderLabs (our website) sells PLA, ABS, HIPS and PVA in 1.75 and 3 mm. $5 flat rate shipping on all orders. We still have some items on our “scratch and dent” clearance right now - http://toybuilderlabs.com/clearance/ – we do sell samples from time-to-time, but we don’t stock every color and size, so requests for sample sizes can take a few days. Otherwise, most orders placed by ~5 pm Pacific goes out the same day and takes 2 to 3 days. We’re also on Amazon.com.

@Joseph_Chiu It would be really awesome if you sold some sample kits. People new to printing need to experiment before they order a big batch of filament. You could take one roll of each color and chop it up into 2m bundles, then drop one of each color into a bag. I suspect people will pay more per kg for a sample pack than for just one color.
ToyBuilderLabs has some of the best consistency & quality I’ve used. Afinia also has good stuff, but TBL red & gold PLA are gorgeous. Plus, its hard to find a black that doesn’t curl & theirs sticks like glue to blue painters tape.

Let us know what material and diameter, and the colors you want (where “all” is a valid answer)… We don’t have an automated way of handling the orders for that. I know @Sanjay_Mortimer has talked about automating his operation (https://plus.google.com/114513371427179260186/posts/ByuCuR5B2tr) – we still might, too. But with already 120+ items in our public SKU, and growing, we’ve decided it was just not practical at an attractive price point.
