Any Canadians out there order from FilamentOne?

Any Canadians out there order from FilamentOne? I’m curious if you received border fees on delivery?

Thanks.

While it does depend on how things are shipped as well, it appears to be largely random. I’ve ordered multiple times from a US based vendor, and been assessed duty and fees roughly 1 in 3 times, with no apparent rhyme or reason.

My postman said that’s the case, and that they’ve stepped up the percentage of parcels checked and assigned fees.

This only applies to USPS>Canada Post, though, dunno how things work with couriers.

If the package was sent via ground, you will get import charges. If it was sent via air, you pay for those charges at time of purchase. If the order is under $20.00, that is the cutoff that customs won’t charge you, unless they suspect fraud or conceilment. All orders over $20.00 they will look at and its up to the discretion of the officer on duty and import charges.

If you have ordered from this company before and not charged previously, go to your post office and get a dispute of importation charge form, fill it out and send it in. You may get a refund, most likley not. Once customs issues importation charges, its one of the most corrupt, uneven levied systems in Canada, and your stuck with it.

It used to be customs would only charge duty and taxes on newly manufactured items, but somewhere along the line they (and they won’t say where or when) started charge for used items as well. Even ebay items listed as broken, its up to the customs officer to decide.

Unfair, absolutely it is!

I got assessed $13 dollars on a $21 order shipped USPS Priority, of which $12 was “customs fees” and $1 was GST. That was utter bullshit, but I was hostage to the system. Good times.

… and that was used parts for a '82 motorcycle. Assholes.

@Derrick_Whittet_Wint was that from FilamentOne?

No. The seller has little to nothing to do with it.
