Any have any input on the bulldog xl extruder?

Any have any input on the bulldog xl extruder?
Want to replace my current stock extruder on the prusav i3v

Performance, reliability?

Thanks

@3dprintingprops I’ve been very happy with my XL. I’ve been printing with it for a year in a direct drive setup and I’ve had no issues what so ever. It is built like a tank and with proper idler tension and motor current it just works.

When first installed did you have to tune it? Or just works right of the get go

You will have to adjust the idler tension to suit the particular filament you are using at the time, tell your firmware to use the connect estep values and set your stepper driver to deliver optimal current for the Xl extruder motor - but those things have to be done no matter what extruder you get.

How is the wiring for the xl go? Colors are blue yellow red brown/orpurple

what voltage do you have for the bulldog on the ramps 1.4? says 0.6amp but i need a voltage

@3dprintingprops I’m not close to my printer right now so I’ll just drop this reference for you;

The voltage depends on your driver. For example original Pololus differ from StepSticks. (which somehow I managed to forget which gave me a lot of trouble for awhile. I set the current too low…)
Here is the reference for StepStick;
http://reprap.org/wiki/StepStick#Adjusting_and_testing_the_current
(“To calculate the VREF for a target current, VREF = A * 8 * RS , or A * 1.6”). I believe worked fine for my setup)
I don’t remember the exact current I chose. Recommended is… well recommended :slight_smile:

Edited.
