Any idea what causes these weird horizantal bands? It looks almost eroded and leaves those filament loops hanging. A few layers layer it goes back to normal. Printrbot simple, printing real slow to reduce warping in 1.75 mm PLA. Thanks!
it looks like a slice of a wedding cake. But on a lighter note, you were able to print this off a Simple? Stock or with the larger bed?
Stock. It is a Kissel lower mount for a friend.
Could filament not unrolling smoothly do this?
Hmm… I would think you may need to re-tighten the lines for the x/y axis. The loops… is that a case where that entire layer is shifted off?
On my Simple, I found that I had to dismantle and retighten the line every few weeks.
Currently, it’s undergoing several mods - I ultimately made the decision to switch to belts over fishing line.
I’ve wanted to print the parts for a Kossel mini, just surprised that you were able to print that part off the stock bed!
If the filament lurches REALLY hard and its mounted on the printer, its possible.
Though it looks like there is support under all this model when none is needed.
Also make sure your smooth rods are nice and lubricated. If they bind that can happen too.
And no it isn’t possible not to giggle at lubing smooth rods.
Hi Jim: Thanks, I will try that. Just a medium machine oil OK?
I print on a raft because even printing this over 11 hours I get some curling. It’s the only way I know to get a flat part. Hopefully a heated bed will make that unnecessary.
I have had good luck with 90wt machine oil, I have heard gun oil works well, but make sure its the lubricating kind and not just the waterproofing kind.
Thanks. I’ll give it a shot.
It could be because of the humidity of the material. but if it is always at the same layer, it can be because of the STL data quality.
