Any idea why this is happening to my TAZ 5? Halfway through prints it stops extruding filament and just starts grinding into it. Would that be a clogged nozzle? Or is the extruded tension wrong? This is ABS printed around 235*C

Thanks

This happened to me if the nozzle was clogged or the filament is contracted on the spool.

Another possibility is too much resistance in the filament feed path.

It can also be caused by incorrect tension on the idler. You can also try adjusting the tension up a little. If you can see a slight depression in the filament where the idler bearing is positioned you may need to reduce the idler tension.
Also ensure that the filament is not tangled on the spool causing fluctuations in resistance pulling filament from the spool.

The drive is doing its job well, otherwise it wouldn’t be eating most of the way through the filament! As the others said, something upstream (filament stuck on spool etc.) or downstream (clogged nozzle, slow ‘heat creep’) is stopping the filament from moving. . .so the drive just eats it up! When it’s jammed release the drive tension and see whether you can push through by hand, that should resolve whether the problem is up or down stream. Good luck.
