Any ideas how to cut this 3D DNA model into sandwich layers to print

Any ideas how to cut this 3D DNA model into sandwich layers to print them separately and later glue them together? http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:39852

I’ve been trying to print this for over a week without success… Even tried Meshmixer 2.0… Nothing works.

3D tools I have access to:
SketchUp 2013
123 Design
Tinkercad
SolidWorks 2013

Any help is truly appreciated!!

Thanks

With NetFabb you can cut objects. You have have to slice it manually though.

Netfabb the online app?

No, the free download version.

you can use OpenSCAD

You should be able to do it in TinkerCAD as well

Haven’t tested it well, but I have a python script for doing this:

It just watched this last night so good timing, the video is not very good but i still can see what is going on. This is splitting parts in SolidWorks.

You can also do this with slic3r. See the bottom of the manual page at
