Any online or linux application to help me calculate feed rate and spindle speed for cutting?
Yes, plenty of websites that do this, a Google search will be your best bet.
“Feeds and Speeds Calculator”
well, then let me reformulate the question: which one is the community choice for feed and speed caclulation?
Simple: http://www.custompartnet.com/calculator/milling-speed-and-feed
Complicated: http://zero-divide.net/?page=fswizard
Good: http://www.daycounter.com/Calculators/GCode/Feed-Rate-Calculator.phtml
I have used them all at one point in time or another. I think 3rd one is my favorite.
Maybe I should add that this is our first CNC and we just got a Kress 1050i and some routing bits, plus a sheet of 10mm acrylic I d like to start cutting, getting ready for our very first real cut…
Yes, for acrylic you will want to move fast.
for example using http://www.cutter-shop.com/information/speed-feeds-calculator.html, with a 5mm dia tool, 10000rpm, 2 flutes, I get 3000mm/min that is a bit fast isn t it? I am not even sure my machine can go that fast.
@Simone_Marin – I always find that F&S calculators assume my machine can move far faster than it can, so I put in my max traverse speed and derive F&S based on that. (I then derate by about 50% because my machine’s not very stiff.)
Exactly this is what I thought still those values seems to be quite off. I ended up at 500mm/min which is a good speed for my machine with the spindle at 14000rpm. First cut so far so good.
I have a metal mill, and am limited both by traverse and spindle speed, so I’ve had to generate my own operational envelope and use that as my entry into a F&S calculator.
