Any suggestions to get the exterior of a brass nozzle clean? Just for aesthetics but was curious. People online have been saying acetone but I thought that only worked for abs. I have been printing only PLA.
Remove, nozzle, torch it in a blue flame, wipe off soot.
Or you can half-ass it with something like thickly-folded wet paper towels or steel wool with the nozzle preheated. (Don’t short your heater wires.)
I’ve switched almost entirely over to coated nozzles, you just have to scrape off molten junk with tweezers every so often and they stay quite clean.
There’s always MEK. Personally, I prefer the “Gunk! What gunk?” approach when it comes to aesthetics. If anyone points it out I’ll just shout bah humbug.
Get a blob of PLA covering the dirty area, cool it down, then pull the blob away as it heats back up. Same concept as a cold pull for cleaning the inside.
I wipe mine with the vinegar moistened tissue I use to clean the bed before printing. Not sure the vinegar does the cleaning but the wetness helps.
Break cleaner and electrical contact cleaner on raw metals works for me.
