Anybody know how to turn on the USB on a Cloudfone Android 4.0.4. I ran the USB diagnostics suggested in the Q & A and no USB devices are recognized alto i can connect to a PC and transfer files.
Doesn’t look like your phone supports “USB-OTG” which is necessary for this app to work.
If you plug a USB stick into your phone does it connect and can you browse files?
If not then you probably don’t have USB-OTG… You MAY be able to get it with a custom ROM and/or kernel, but that’s your only option other than a device which supports USB-OTG.
You also normally need a special USB-OTG cable, if you’re not using one, you could try getting one from eBay fairly cheap and seeing if it works.
I had gotten an OTC cable. It wont see a thumb drive either. I have cheep a tablet that will see USB, but my expensive fone nope.
Hi Wayne, if you want a cheap android phone, check out the myphone a919duo. That is the phone I’m using right now and it supports usb otg. If you want, i can let you test my phone with the gcodeprintr app when i go to your shop?
Ok sure. thanks
I have a cheap (£40) android tab from eBay (allwinnerA13). This has USB host, I will use it to operate a Mendel later today, but £40 is probably cheaper than most phones you may have USB host on.
The problem is i have Android version 4.0. USB OTG has support starting at 4.1
That’s interesting as I only put a new ROM on my GS2 yesterday. Maybe it won’t work on the Tablet I have if I need later than 4.1.
I am specifically talking about the OTG part of the USB.
“The problem is i have Android version 4.0 USB OTG has support starting at 4.1”
- Even if that is the specification, that is not correct, I have used a tablet that was definitely ICS 4.0.3 which worked with USB OTG. It was very ‘chinese’ so perhaps they’d hacked it to work, but it DID work. Tablet died since, but I’m thinking another $50 tablet should be a good controller and a good alternative to smart LCD controllers.
The tablet I’d hoped to use wouldn’t interface.
I’ll have another look when I have more time. Its annoying as its fine with USB sticks and mice.
Its rooted so I’ll see what I can do.
Andy.
That is a strange one… AFAIK kernels are where you “have or don’t have” support for different peripherals, perhaps there is a different kernel available for your device.
Good luck with it!
Scence this post i have gotten a $50 Android tablet that supports OTG and also found out my Cloudfone is offering a free upgrade to 4.1. Don’t know if i want to upgrade it now tho. Already have it set up and would have to buy some apps again. I think i am at a happy medium with this OTG problem. Thanks all for the input.
If you sign in to both devices with the same google username, you should have the same apps available on both (eg I bought GCodePrintr on my phone, but once I tested and was happy using it, I can also download it onto my tablet which I’ve signed into with the same username)
Ah great tip. You may have just saved the day.
Oh yeah, was very excited to find out that I didn’t need to buy all my games again also
Good luck with it!
Yes, its true you’re able to use on both devices.
Though the free version does exactly what I want.
I’m trying to find a CM ROM and installer for my cheap tablet.
I cm’d my tablet, it was a poorer experience so I changed back, depends on how good the Dev is for that tablet, but occasionally the original firmware is better with rock-bottom tablets - good luck tho!
Hey, a13 didn’t take the cm10 ROM: touchscreen stopped working.
I finallygot the touchscreen going today with a different rom.
Gcode Printr worked immediately. It was brilliant. Especially now I’ve switched the direction of the x-axis.
Final few steps will be using the tablet to copy the code to the microSD I print from.
Great software. thanks for developing.
