Anybody know where to get anything like these? Largish objects with good diffusion? Always looking for fun stuff to create with… These are really great but too expensive. Besides, I just want the shell not all the hardware inside.

I like those. You could mount the lids to a wall or flat piece and then just stack the boxes for transportation. Pop then on when you get to the location and plug it in. Nice.
I’ve found similar at homebase and b&q (UK stores) for planting. Not always a high quality surface but you can usually find usable stuff!
If you want something to sit on, then go to the local retail display suppliers - they will cut acrylic to measure and weld it together into whatever shape you want. If you want it opaque/frosted, that;s just down to the material they use.
If you just want it to look at and not sit on, the packaging suppliers are the place to go - PVC foldable boxes.
They will be a lot cheaper from a local packaging supply house.
