Anyone else consider making a 3 inch thick 3d carving only to realize that

Anyone else consider making a 3 inch thick 3d carving only to realize that the rotary cutting tool would hit the top of the work piece at a steep slope?

My brother gave me the idea of splitting the piece into two different 1.5 inch tall sections and joining them together. I don’t know how well it would work, but I guess it is worth a shot and the wood would be much cheaper with a 2x6 than with a 4x6.

Hmmmm…part of my concern is for wood grain mismatch.

That adds another layer of complexity then. But for just volume I would say you can stack slices to save both time and cost.
